Norsad is Established

Norsad Fund and Norsad Agency begin operations as a Nordic SADC multilateral entity in Lusaka, Zambia.

10th Anniversary

Norsad Fund celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Capital Exceeds USD80 million

Norsad achieves an operating surplus of USD1.5 million, and increases its capital base to USD84 million.

80+ Projects Financed

Norsad had financed 81 projects since its establishment, with disbursements totalling USD114 million.

20th Anniversary

Norsad Fund celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Norsad Fund Transformation

Four Nordic development finance institutions – Finfund (Finland), IFU (Denmark), Norfund (Norway) and Swedfund (Sweden) –  invest USD33.8 million in the transformed Norsad Finance, increasing the company’s capital base to over USD100 million. Norsad Finance relocates from Lusaka to Gaborone.

Expanded Finance Offering

Norsad places increased emphasis on customised debt offerings, with more stretch loans and mezzanine investments introduced into its portfolio.

30 Years of Impact

30 years of Impact investing by Norsad, selecting investments that clearly contribute to solving social and environmental issues.

Expanded Market Coverage

Norsad expands market coverage beyond its principal operational area of Southern Africa into sub-Sahara Africa as a leading private debt provider in Africa.

Norsad Finance rebrands to Norsad Capital

The rebranding reflects our intention to scale and deepen our impact in line with our commitment to building a better Africa.

Our Story

Norsad was first established in 1990, a collaboration between the Nordic and Southern African Development Community (SADC) governments, and operated as a multilateral agency based in Lusaka, Zambia. In 2011, we transformed into a limited liability company, Norsad Finance, incorporated in Botswana and accredited by the International Financial Services Centre. In 2022, we rebranded to Norsad Capital in line with our strategy to scale and deepen our impact in Africa.
