Norsad Capital and LEA training program for the differently abled
The Norsad Capital Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee identified a prevalent gap in existing business training programs. These programs, though designed to enhance the capacities of small business owners, often neglect the specific learning requirements of disabled individuals. To address this issue, collaborative efforts have been initiated with the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), the primary provider of business training in Botswana, and the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD), to adapt and enrich training programs offered by LEA by integrating specialized support mechanisms such as sign language interpreters.
Under this collaborative initiative, Norsad and BCD identified 28 disabled small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners. These individuals constituted to the inaugural cohort for the redesigned LEA training program, powered by Norsad Capital. This was a 5-day training program, which upon successful completion, participants received a certificate of completion accredited by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA).
This initiative yielded far-reaching outcomes. By providing tailored training to disabled SME owners, we foresee a significant enhancement in their business skills which would lead to them running their businesses much more efficiently and realising growth opportunities. This initiative is in perfect alignment with our purpose to "Build a Better Africa," contributing to our vision of positively impacting the lives of 100 million Africans by 2030.
